Merida uses this process in the manufacture of our carbon frames. First, the carbon fibre that makes up the frame is placed around special moulds. Then they use a bubble to press the layers against the outside of the frame mould. This creates a smooth and wrinkle-free inner surface, removing any voids between the carbon layers that could be potential weak points. The result is a stronger, lighter frame.
Suspension system that uses a Flexstay design to reduce weight and maintenance, is Adjustable to run 29” or 27.5” wheels without altering the geometry and has Size Tuned shock progression that increases with frame size, so lighter and smaller riders can access all of the travel and heavier riders get the support they need on big hits.
On most frames, transmission and brake cables and hoses are routed through the frame. Cables enter and exit the frame through smooth sockets or one of the other systems is used, such as SMART ENTRY or WIRE PORT. Routing cables inside the frame protects them from the elements, provides a clean and sleek look, and can offer aerodynamic benefits.
An optional extra coverage mudguard that bolts rigidly to the back end of our bikes, protecting the rider from dirt and water spray while reducing noise, movement and prevent damage to the paintwork.
NANO MATRIX CARBON is a special type of carbon fibre in which we add very small nanoscale particles to the resin that holds the individual carbon fibres together. These act on a molecular level to protect against damage. The technology is so effective that it can increase the impact strength of the carbon fibre by up to 40%, allowing us to build stronger and lighter composite frames. This in turn leads to faster and more durable bikes.
A suspension design where the traditional pivot point on the seat stay is eliminated in favour of a flexstay design. This uses the compliance of the material and specific shaping of the tubes to allow for the seat and chain stays to move apart as the suspension moves through the travel. By removing this pivot point at the seat and chain stay junction, we save weight, reduce maintenance needs and add stiffness to the frame structure.
MERIDA designed headsets that enable all control cables from the handlebar to enter the frame through the headset cover, creating a clean and uncluttered look, allowing for a lighter, stronger and more aerodynamic frame structure than with conventional cable ports. Depending on the model, the cables are run completely internally (including the bar and stem) or semi-integrated, where the cables enter the frame underneath the stem.
Steering precision is vital to safe and confident handling, and the X-TAPER HEADTUBE allows us to significantly boost this precision. A larger headset diameter at the bottom paired with a smaller one at the top helps to deal with the strains modern riding and equipment can put on the headtube, all without adding unnecessary weight. It allows tapered forks to be fitted with ease and delivers precise and confidence-inspiring steering.
