Beginners, less experienced recreational skiers and those who prefer very relaxed skiing may be better suited to softer models with lower flex ratings.

How Do These Ski Boots Perform on the Slopes?

On groomed slopes, ATOMIC Hawx Prime 120 S BOA provide firm support, excellent stability and exceptionally precise responsiveness when controlling the skis. The 120 flex index allows the front of the boot to be loaded during performance skiing while providing a slightly more accessible forward flex than models with a 130 flex. The polyurethane shell combined with Prolite technology creates a rigid construction that supports efficient energy transmission to the skis. The model is therefore well suited to dynamic carving, rapid turn transitions and fast skiing on firmer groomed snow, where precision, stability and reliable edge control are essential.

During carving and rapid edge transitions, the benefits of the BOA® H+i1 Single Pull system become particularly noticeable. The dial mechanism allows precise adjustment of the lower shell and creates even contact around the foot. Combined with the premium Mimic Platinum Liner and Power Ankle Lock (PAL) technology, it helps reduce unwanted heel and ankle movement. As a result, foot movements are transmitted to the skis with minimal delay, supporting more accurate turn initiation, quicker edge changes and better control during performance skiing.

At higher speeds and under intensive loads, Prolite and Energy Backbone provide the necessary structural stability. Strategically reinforced areas of the shell help resist unwanted deformation when greater forces are transmitted, while Energy Backbone supports the rigidity of the rear section of the boot. The 120 flex offers substantial support for advanced performance skiing while allowing slightly easier forward flexion than a stiffer 130 flex. This can make it a more suitable choice for skiers who want to ski dynamically throughout the day and are looking for a combination of high precision and less demanding flex characteristics.

An important advantage is the ability to customize the skiing stance using Power Shift 2.0. The forward lean of the cuff can be adjusted to 13°, 15° or 17°, with 15° being the default setting. This allows the position of the shin and the geometry of the skiing stance to be adapted to the skier's technique and anatomy. Adaptive Fit System (AFS) Cuff helps adjust the space around the calf, while Dual-Sided Cuff Alignment provides lateral cuff adjustment. Correctly adjusted geometry can contribute to a more natural stance, more efficient edge loading and improved ski control.

During all-day skiing, the combination of the Mimic Platinum Liner with Mimic, Fully Heat Moldable, Memory Fit, Hawx AFS Tongue, Dual Velcro Spoiler and 3D Stretch Toe Box technologies becomes particularly valuable. Although these are firm performance boots, their construction offers extensive individual customization options. Heat molding helps optimize the space around the foot, the adjustable tongue allows contact around the instep and shin to be refined, and the flexible toe area supports comfort during extended use. GripWalk soles also make walking without skis easier. Overall, these are high-performance all-mountain ski boots that combine sporting precision, stability and modern individual adjustment technologies with comfort suitable for demanding all-day skiing.

Understanding the Technical Specifications

Flex Index 120

A 120 flex index indicates a high level of performance-oriented stiffness, primarily intended for advanced and experienced skiers who prefer dynamic and technically accomplished skiing.

Compared with models featuring a 90, 100 or 110 flex, it provides firmer support when pressure is applied to the front of the cuff. This enables more effective pressure transmission to the skis during carving, faster turns and higher-speed skiing.

Compared with a 130 flex, however, it offers a slightly more accessible forward flex, which can be advantageous during all-day skiing or for performance skiers who do not require extreme stiffness. The actual perception of stiffness depends on body weight, strength, temperature and boot construction. Flex ratings are also not uniformly standardized across manufacturers.

100 mm Last – Medium Width / MV

ATOMIC Hawx Prime 120 S BOA feature a nominal 100 mm last width, corresponding to the Medium Width / Medium Volume category.

This width is particularly suitable for performance skiers with medium-width feet who require secure retention while maintaining sufficient room for individual customization.

Combined with the BOA® Fit system, Memory Fit technology and the heat-moldable Mimic Platinum Liner, it allows contact between the foot and shell to be optimized. The 100 mm measurement is nominal, and the actual last width varies according to shell size. Instep height, heel shape and overall foot volume should also be considered when selecting the correct fit.

BOA® H+i1 Single Pull Closure System

BOA® H+i1 Single Pull is a modern closure system for the lower section of the ski boot, replacing traditional lower buckles with a dial-operated mechanism.

Turning the dial allows the shell to be tightened gradually and precisely around the foot. The system provides accurate adjustment of foot retention and promotes more even pressure distribution.

During performance skiing, secure foot positioning helps improve contact between the foot and boot while reducing unwanted movement inside the shell. The upper cuff remains equipped with traditional 6000-Series Aluminium Buckles.

Weight 1,981 g / Size 26–26.5

The manufacturer specifies a weight of 1,981 g per boot in size 26/26.5.

The actual weight may vary depending on the specific boot size. The stated figure is primarily intended as a reference for comparing different models.

Considering the 120 flex index, polyurethane construction and BOA® Fit system, the model offers an appealing combination of performance-oriented rigidity and efficient material utilization. Prolite technology contributes to this construction by strategically reinforcing the most highly stressed areas.

Forward Lean 13°, 15° and 17° – Power Shift 2.0

Power Shift 2.0 technology allows the forward lean of the cuff to be adjusted to 13°, 15° or 17°.

The default setting is 15°. Changing the angle allows the shin position and overall skiing stance geometry to be adjusted.

The 13° setting creates a more upright position, while 17° provides a more pronounced forward lean. The optimal setting depends on the skier's anatomy, technique and preferences. Adjustments are best performed professionally, ideally as part of a specialist bootfitting service.

Ramp Angle 4°

Ramp Angle 4° refers to the structural inclination of the foot area inside the ski boot.

Together with the forward lean of the cuff, it influences lower-leg positioning and the way pressure is transmitted during skiing.

The overall feel of the skiing stance also depends on the skier's anatomy, ski construction and bindings. A 4° ramp angle should therefore not be considered a universally ideal setting for every skier.

Sizes 25/25.5–31/31.5

ATOMIC Hawx Prime 120 S BOA are available in Mondopoint sizes 25/25.5 to 31/31.5.

This size range provides options for adult skiers with different foot lengths and corresponds to the performance-oriented character of the model.

When choosing the correct size, it is important to consider not only foot length but also width, instep height and heel volume. Even extensive heat-molding capabilities cannot compensate for an incorrectly selected shell size.

Technologies and Construction

Prolite

Prolite is an Atomic construction technology based on efficient material distribution and strategic reinforcement of the most important areas of the shell.

Its purpose is to create a strong and stable structure without unnecessary material in areas where additional reinforcement is not required.

In the Hawx Prime 120 S BOA, Prolite helps combine the performance-oriented stiffness of a 120 flex with efficient energy transmission and balanced weight. Together with the polyurethane shell, it supports precise responsiveness during dynamic skiing.

Memory Fit

Memory Fit allows professional heat customization of the shell and cuff according to the individual anatomy of the foot and lower leg.

During the specialist fitting process, the material is heated and subsequently adjusted to meet the skier's specific requirements. This allows selected areas to be optimized where the standard shell shape does not provide sufficient space.

This technology is particularly valuable in performance ski boots with a 120 flex because it helps maintain secure retention while reducing unwanted pressure points. Memory Fit significantly expands the possibilities for individual bootfitting.

Hawx Geometry

Hawx Geometry refers to the structural geometry of Atomic Hawx ski boots, influencing foot positioning, lower-leg alignment and the transmission of movement to the skis.

Properly designed shell and cuff geometry supports a stable skiing stance and efficient pressure management throughout each turn.

In the Hawx Prime 120 S BOA, it is combined with a medium-width 100 mm last, performance-oriented stiffness and the adjustable Power Shift 2.0 system. The result is a precise and powerful boot character with extensive customization options.

Mimic Platinum Liner

Mimic Platinum Liner is a premium Atomic liner designed to provide excellent foot stability, precise retention and individually customizable comfort.

It features Mimic technology for anatomical heat molding and the Power Ankle Lock (PAL) system, which promotes exceptionally secure ankle and heel retention.

Its construction also incorporates Fully Heat Moldable technology, the adjustable Hawx AFS Tongue, the flexible 3D Stretch Toe Box and Dual Velcro Spoiler. Thanks to this combination, Mimic Platinum Liner provides a high level of performance-oriented foot retention and extensive customization options for demanding skiers.

Mimic

Mimic is an Atomic technology that allows selected areas of the liner to be heat-molded to the individual shape of the foot.

During professional heating, the material adapts to the anatomical contours of the foot and helps retain the customized shape after cooling.

This allows contact between the foot and liner to be optimized, uncomfortable pressure points to be reduced and stable foot positioning to be supported. In firm performance ski boots, proper customization is important for both precision and comfort.

Power Ankle Lock (PAL)

Power Ankle Lock (PAL) is a technology designed to provide enhanced stabilization around the ankle and heel inside the ski boot.

Secure positioning of these areas helps minimize unwanted foot movement inside the shell, which is essential for precise energy transmission during dynamic carving and higher-speed skiing.

In the Hawx Prime 120 S BOA, Power Ankle Lock complements the premium Mimic Platinum Liner and supports a stable connection between the foot and boot. This results in more confident ski control and more accurate responsiveness under demanding loads.

Fully Heat Moldable

Fully Heat Moldable refers to the ability to heat-mold the liner according to the individual anatomy of the foot.

During professional bootfitting, the material can be customized around selected areas of the foot, particularly where comfort and retention need to be optimized.

Heat molding can help reduce uncomfortable pressure and improve contact between the foot and boot. In a performance model with a 120 flex, maintaining sufficiently secure foot retention is important, so customization should always begin with the correctly selected shell size.

Hawx AFS Tongue

Hawx AFS Tongue is an adjustable liner tongue that allows contact around the instep and front of the shin to be customized.

Correct adjustment helps optimize pressure distribution when loading the cuff and contributes to a more precise connection between the foot and ski boot.

In the Hawx Prime 120 S BOA, it is an important customization feature because the performance-oriented 120 flex generates considerable pressure on the front of the boot during dynamic skiing. The adjustable tongue helps combine firm support with more comfortable contact.

3D Stretch Toe Box

3D Stretch Toe Box is a technology that increases the flexibility of the front section of the liner around the toes.

The more elastic material allows better adaptation to individual toe shapes and supports more natural toe positioning.

In firm performance ski boots, this technology is particularly beneficial during all-day skiing because it helps maintain comfort in the forefoot area even when the heel and instep are securely retained.

Dual Velcro Spoiler

Dual Velcro Spoiler is an adjustable liner component that allows the rear section to be individually customized.

Using a hook-and-loop fastening system, the position of the spoiler can be adjusted to optimize contact between the back of the leg, the liner and the cuff.

This feature expands the possibilities for individual performance fitting and can contribute to improved comfort and more stable contact under load. The correct position depends on the skier's anatomy and preferences.

Power Shift 2.0

Power Shift 2.0 allows the forward lean of the ski boot cuff to be adjusted.

In the Hawx Prime 120 S BOA, three settings are available: 13°, 15° and 17°, with 15° being the default.

This allows the shin position and stance geometry to be adapted to individual skiing technique. The more upright 13° setting and the more pronounced 17° forward lean provide different options for optimizing a performance-oriented skiing stance.

Adaptive Fit System (AFS) Cuff

Adaptive Fit System (AFS) Cuff allows the upper section of the cuff to be adapted to different calf shapes and volumes.

A correctly adjusted cuff supports even contact with the shin and stable support under demanding loads.

In a model with a 120 flex, proper adjustment is particularly important because the firm cuff transmits substantial forces. AFS Cuff helps optimize both comfort and performance functionality.

Energy Backbone

Energy Backbone is a construction technology designed to increase the strength and stability of the rear section of the ski boot.

The reinforced area helps maintain firm support under demanding loads and promotes efficient energy transmission between the leg and ski.

In the Hawx Prime 120 S BOA, Energy Backbone contributes to excellent stability during performance carving, rapid turns and higher-speed skiing.

Dual-Sided Cuff Alignment

Dual-Sided Cuff Alignment allows lateral adjustment of the cuff position according to the anatomy of the lower leg.

Correct alignment can help achieve a more natural leg position and optimize contact between the shin and ski boot.

This feature is useful during professional bootfitting, particularly when the cuff needs to be adapted to the natural alignment of the lower legs. Adjustments should be performed by a specialist with consideration for the skier's biomechanics.

PU Shell / PU Cuff

ATOMIC Hawx Prime 120 S BOA feature a polyurethane shell and polyurethane cuff (PU Shell / PU Cuff).

Polyurethane provides strong structural support and properties suitable for high-performance ski boots, where precise responsiveness and controlled cuff flexion are essential.

Combined with Prolite and Energy Backbone technologies, it creates a stable foundation for dynamic skiing. The material also allows professional heat customization through Memory Fit.

BOA® H+i1 Single Pull

BOA® H+i1 Single Pull is a precise mechanical closure system for the lower shell, operated through a dial mechanism.

It allows progressive adjustment of pressure around the foot and promotes even pressure distribution without conventional lower buckles.

During performance skiing, it helps stabilize the foot inside the shell and supports accurate transmission of movement to the skis. The upper section of the boot uses separate aluminium buckles, allowing the lower shell and cuff retention to be adjusted independently.

6000-Series Aluminium Buckles

6000-Series Aluminium Buckles are durable aluminium buckles used to secure the ski boot cuff.

They provide firm mechanical closure and allow the level of tightness to be adjusted according to shin anatomy and the desired degree of retention.

Combined with the BOA® system in the lower shell and the 40mm Velcro Strap, they create a stable closure arrangement suitable for demanding performance skiing.

40mm Velcro Strap

40mm Velcro Strap is a 40 mm wide hook-and-loop fastening strap positioned at the top of the cuff.
