To make cross-country skiing fun for you, you need to choose the right type and length of the skis. Recent trend in this sport is shortening. Thanks to this skis became easier to control, which will appreciated specially by beginners. Nordic skis market is large - ATOMIC, FISCHER, MADSHUS, SPORTEN, SALOMON, PELTONEN, ROSSIGNOL... Cross-country Skis

Cross-country Skis Types:

  • Sport Skis – the skis have same width along their full length
    • Classic Skis
    • Skate Skis
    • Combi Skis
  • Touring Skis – the skis have sidecut with very long radius which enables better control

Special types - backcountry skis are designed for skiing off the groomed tracks, these skis are longer and wider.

How to choose the nordic skis?

How experienced are you:

  1. Beginner, tourist - tourist skis, waxless skis are the most popular as they don’t require a lot of attention to perform at their best. Waxless skis use a scale pattern on the bottom that prevents any slip backwards and provides grip in a variety of snow conditions.
  1. Recreational skier - if you mastered a classic and skating style, combi skis are good choice for you. For less groomed terrain, we recommend the classic cross-country touring skis.
  1. Skier preferring cross-country skiing - we recommend to choose backcountry skis with metal edges. Largest selection of this ski type is offered by brands Sporten and Atomic.
  1. Competitive skier – choose according to the technique you use more frequently - classic, skating, or higher models of combi skis. Higher end models will be made lighter than cheaper versions.

Cross-country Ski Boots

If you're not an professional skier choose boots and skis of the same series, you will not regret. Why? Most boots function (and design) corresponds to the model of skis. Average user will feel comfortable in warm soft boots. However racer needs hard and stiff racing boots to support his performance. Backcountry skiers should choose massive higher boots which they appreciate when walking through the deep snow.
