The history of autostan production began in 1958 in Italy. The original Italian invention from 1958, the AUTOHOME roof tent, has been the companion of adventurers, explorers and travellers around the world for more than sixty years.
The extraordinary intuition of the time, based on the newly emerging mass market of automotive tourism, identified a sense of freedom and freedom fromand offered the greatest possible luxury as the basis for its well-deserved success in the global marketplace.
Questions like crowded hotels, sold out rooms, want to save money, sleep well, but how and where? have since been solved by the original AUTOHOME products, which have turned travel and outdoor life into a passion.
"...why not attach a tent to the roof of the car..."? The following question was a natural answer: yes, but how?
There are countless solutions in mechanics. It was just a matter of understanding which one to adopt.
Between late 1957 and March 1959, there were two innovative interpretations of the same idea: the vertical lifting tent and the side-folding folding tent.
These two tents were developed at about the same time. the former - if only for a while - was the ancestor of the current "Maggiolina" (in its first version called "Au-tocampeggio Stogl", after the name of its creator); patented between 1957 and 1958, just a few monthsmonths before "Air-Camping", the folding fabric roof tent by Giuseppe Dionisio (inventedclimber and designer also known as Gidion), which was granted the relevant patent in 1959.
There was no immediate competition between the shell model and the folding fabric model, they were even presented on the same stand at two exhibitions in 1959, first in Milan and then in Cuneo. Both the "Maggiolina" and the "Air-Camping", as they were named, with their extraordinary ingenuity, had a huge thanks to technical innovations that have remained almost unchanged throughout 60 years of production, travel and history. Not only roof tents for camping: both models will be appreciated by hikers, but also by professional explorers and adventurous travellers.
AUTOHOME: the roof tent specialists.
At first, the roof tent was a cheap alternative for independent travellers, but over time roof tents have become an essentialso much so that the then manufacturing company decided to create the "AUTOHOME" brand. created and manufactured in Italy, which now includes seven styles of roof tents "Maggiolina", "AirTop", "Columbus", "Over-land", "Overzone", "Overcamp" and "Air-Camping", with more than 50 roof tent models to choose from, plus accessories for all requirements. AUTOHOME is the history of roof tents.
