HEAD Discovery 78 Pro

– all-mountain skis (78 mm) for all-day skiing on and off piste

Available setups: PROTECTOR EVO PR 11 GW / PR 11 GW

The HEAD Discovery 78 Pro is a versatile all-mountain ski designed for skiers who want one reliable setup for the entire day, regardless of changing conditions. With a 78 mm waist, it offers an ideal balance between easy handling on piste and stability in light off-piste terrain.

The ski performs best in an approximate 50% piste / 50% off-piste ratio, making it a true all-rounder for mixed snow conditions.

Thanks to the full wood Superframe core and Auxetic Tech, the ski adapts to your skiing style. At lower speeds it feels smooth and forgiving, while at higher speeds and stronger input it stiffens progressively, delivering increased stability and precision.

Who this model is for

intermediate to advanced skiers
those looking for a versatile all-day ski
skiers combining piste and light off-piste terrain

On-snow performance

easy turn initiation
smooth and predictable handling
stable at medium speeds
capable in tracked snow and light off-piste

Understanding the key parameters

78 mm waist width
A versatile all-mountain width. Provides quick edge-to-edge transitions on piste while maintaining stability off piste.

Turn radius (medium, depending on length)
Supports both short and medium turns. The ski adapts well to different skiing styles.

Construction: Superframe wood core / Auxetic Tech
A full wood core ensures stability and energy, while Auxetic technology enables a progressive flex that responds to skier input.

Tip and tail rocker
Improves maneuverability in softer snow and makes turn initiation easier.

Key features

high versatility
easy and intuitive handling
adaptive flex depending on skiing style
ideal for all-day skiing

Technologies

AFS - ANTI FRICTION SLIDER

The TYROLIA Anti-Friction Slider (AFS) provides not only secure boot release but also rapid and exact boot re-centering. For better safety and reliability.
AUXETIC

Auxetic is a unique structure that expands in width when stretched in length. In our skis, this means the structure strengthens under pressure.
BETTER BALANCE

This ski is equipped with a Better Balance Base.
The inclined Better Balance Base provides a constant ramp angle for all boot sole sizes, ensuring that all skiers enjoy the same mechanical advantage for easy turn initiation and stability at high speeds.
BTR KINEMATICS

The BTR kinematics allows for constant release values in backward twisting falls. It compensates friction due to two different release characteristics based on vertical load. In the event of a backward twisting fall, the toe’s wings are pressed upward and shift to a new hinge point. This modified lever arm compensates for the increased forces, ensuring a consistent release behavior.
FHR - FULL HEEL RELEASE

The new Full Heel Release Technology (FHR) delivers intelligent 180° release both horizontally and vertically ensuring maximum safety in forward and backward twisting fall situations. The FHR function can reduce ACL strain by more than 50%*.
*finite element model simulations by University of Innsbruck: "Lateral Heel Release Reduces ACL strain in Simulated Backward Twisting Falls"
FULL DIAGONAL TOE

The TYROLIA Full Diagonal Release function delivers intelligent 180° release both horizontally and vertically.
GRAPHENE

Graphene is a 2D material that even when an atom thick is one of the strongest and lightest materials on earth. Used zonally in a board it magnifies a board’s positive characteristics.
GRAPHENE is the thinnest and lightest element ever discovered by mankind. GRAPHENE is also the strongest material on the planet, stronger than diamond and 300 times stronger than steel, all in the thickness of one atom.
GRIPWALK

Accommodates all Alpine ski boots (ISO 5355 TYPE A) plus all GripWalk ski boots (ISO 23223 TYPE A)
PROTECTOR ready

This ski is ready for PROTECTOR.
The PROTECTOR binding works with all skis with pre-mounted PowerRail or SuperLiteRail base. All flat skis work with the PROTECTOR Attack binding or the PROTECTOR SET versions.
Thanks to its FULL HEEL RELEASE function, the PROTECTOR binding can reduce ACL strain by more than 50%* in the event of a fall.
SUPERFRAME

As the ski flexes in the turn the Auxetic material expands within the construction it builds up pressure pushing against the Superframe causing the ski to get stiffer the more it flexes.
TRP - ROLLER PINCER TOE SYSTEM

The TYROLIA Roller Pincer Toe System (TRP System) with its four rollers allows a 180° release and exact centering of the ski boot. The TRP system reduces the load on knees and ligaments and improves performance considerably.
